Taiwo Aiyedogbon graduated from the department of Fine Art, Sculpture, at the Yaba College of Technology Lagos, Nigeria. In her practice, she explores a variety of methods for self-expression including painting, experimental drawing, sculpture, installation and performance art. Her works often touch upon current issues related to politics and the environment in the city of Lagos. She was the project coordinator of the alternative community art school (COMMUNAL RE-IMAGINATION) funded by the Prince Claus fund and worked as Curatorial Assistance at the Centre for Contemporary Art Lagos, (CCA) Lagos Nigeria. She has participated in exhibitions and performances including ‘African Time’ (Malmo, Sweden) 2015, ‘Ipele’ at the National Museum (Lagos, Nigeria) 2017, ‘Threshold’ as part of the inaugural Lagos Biennial (Lagos, Nigeria) 2017 and ‘Flip’ (Kumasi, Ghana)2019, ‘Mirror Mirror’ at Artx, Federal Palace (Lagos, Nigeria) 2019.

Mo nife lati mu ayika pelu isepo Ewi, nibi ti awon akole ti o jomo si oro, omo, iya, baba, agbo ile, awon ibeji, Oba, asa, ile Yoruba ati die ninu awon oro to jemo ise ile Yoruba nipase Ewi.

Mofe se igbejade Aaye, fun wakati kan ogbon iseju sise ni pelu egbe awon odo okunrin, bi mo se n reti  lati fa edun, ipeni ati ise lait owo awon eniyan owujo ati ibomi.

I am interested in creating an atmosphere that engages with Yoruba poetry, where topics relating to wealth, children, mother, father, household, twins, kings, traditions, Yoruba land and some other words relating to the culture of Yoruba land are discussed through Yoruba poetry.

I will be presenting Aaye (Space), an hour and thirty minutes live performance with a group of young men, as I look forward to drawing out emotion, provocations and reactions from my immediate audience and beyond.

Aderemi Adegbite jẹ́ òṣèré alábòjútó tí ó ń gbé, tí ó sì ń ṣiṣẹ́ ní ìlú Èkó. Àwọn ohun tí ó jẹ ẹ́ lógún nísinsìnyí ni bí àwọn ìrírí tí ó ti kọjá (ẹ̀dùn ọkàn, ayọ̀ , okoòwò, ìrìn àjò àti ìgbàgbọ́ ẹ̀sìn) nínú ẹbí ṣe ń nípa lórí ipò tí èèyàn wà lọ́wọ́ lọ́wọ́ , tí ó sì níí ṣe fún ọjọ́ iwájú. Ipa tí ọpọlọ ń kó lórí èròǹgbà “ẹnìkan fún gbogbo, gbogbo fún ẹnìkan” ni ó wà ní àárín gbùngbùn ìjíròrò àti ìbéèrè tí Aderemi ń wú jáde nípasẹ̀ àwọn ohun agbédègbẹ́yọ̀ , ẹ̀rọ àti ìṣe tí kò dàbí àṣà.

Aderemi Adegbite is an artist-curator living and working in Lagos. His current thematic interest is how past experiences (agonies, joys, businesses, travels and religious beliefs) of being part of a family reshape the individual’s present conditions, and serve as catalysts for “the” surrealistic future. The psychological effect of the idea “one for all, all for one,” is at the centre of Aderemi’s new interrogations and interventions through multimedia, installation and unconventional performance practice.

Yoruba as a vernacular has its beauty in its tonal punctuations that create rhythmic tunes. Do Rẹ Mi (\ _ /) as the tonal marks could give twisted meaning when missing or wrongly applied. ABD Olowe interrogates the application of tonal marks and the internal rhyme of its poetics. Tonality of the phonetics is my point of departure in this video through the use of both archival footage in response to the phonetics and grammar construction.

Jelili Atiku born on Friday 27th September 1968 is a Nigerian multimedia artist with political concerns for human rights and justice. He strives to help viewers understand the world and expand their understanding and experiences, so that they can activate and renew their lives and environments. He has travelled widely and participated in numerous performances/exhibitions/talks in Africa, America, Asia and Europe. These include performances at Manifesta 12 (2018), Venice Biennial (2017), Dublin Live Art Festival (2016), SPIELART Festival, München, Germany (2019), Material Effects at Broad Art Museum, Michigan State University East Lansing, Michigan, USA (2015), Tate Modern (2012) etc. In 2015, Jelili was awarded Prince Claus Laureate for creating a new artistic language combining Yoruba traditional art forms with international performance practice; and for taking personal and artistic risks in order to open new possibilities and reach wider audiences; and for his pioneering dedication to establishing space for contemporary performance art in Nigeria.

The performance consists of ritual of cleansing, re-alignment with the energies of nature to reinvigorate personal human body, health and mental strength. It references Odu Ifa, Èjìogbè, which says, Atẹ́ni árà Awo òkun, Làá pe ajé, Atẹ́ni-lárà Awo ọ̀ṣà, Làá pe aya Atẹ́ni lárà Awo atan omi, Làá pe ọmọ tuntun jòjòló; Orí mi àpére, Àyà mi àfobì kàn.

Ifá said Rúkú rúkú rúkú
Womu womu womu
Tàbí rí tàbí rí wọ̀mu;
made ifa divine consultation for Fàboyékẹ̀ Whom was young in Alado’s house,
On the day he/she was feeling unhealthy
Ọrùnmìla Ògìrììyàndá (who people rush/troop to in order to choose their destiny), Ifá, don’t let us
worship you with unhealthily body
We have become Agbòdànyìn leaf,
We have become Ìrosùn tree,
The disease, the illness
That struck us last night

Àsìkò Oúnjẹ Ṣíṣe

Idowu Bankole gboyè jáde ní ẹ̀ka Industrial Design (Textile), ní Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, Nigeria. Idowu Bankole jẹ́ ọmọ bíbí ìpínlẹ̀ Ọ̀ṣun, ọ̀kan nínú agbègbè Yorùbá ní ìlú Nigeria tí ó lókìkí fún ìṣe àti àṣà. Ó jẹ́ oníṣẹ́ ọnà tí ó ń lo onírúurú ọ̀nà láti gbé ohun tí ó ń ṣe jáde, nítorí pé ó gbajú-gbajà nínú ìmọ̀ nípa aṣọ, ó sì máa ń lo oríṣiríṣi àwọ̀ aláràbarà fún ojú iṣẹ́ tí ó bá ń ṣe. Ó ń ṣe agbátẹrù èyí ní onírúurú ọ̀nà, ì báà ṣe yíya nǹkan, kíkùn nǹkan, àdìrẹ, eré orí ìtàgé àti nǹkan àtòpọ̀mọ́ra. Ó máa ń ní àjùmọ̀ṣe tààrà pẹ̀ lú àyíká àti àwọn ènìyàn.

Idowu Bankole graduated from the Department of Industrial Design (Textile), at the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, Nigeria.  Idowu Bankole hails from Osun State, one of Nigeria’s Yoruba Territory known with rich Culture and Traditions. She is a multi-disciplinary artist that explores a variety of methods as she is known with a profound knowledge in Textiles and employing the use of colourful pigments on surfaces which are presented through diverse forms which includes Drawings, Paintings, Tie/Dye, Batik, Performance Art and Installation. Her works often engages directly with the environment and people. 

Chinwe Erica Tijani: Abilékọ tí ó ní àwọn ọmọ méjì, tí ó sì dá ara ẹ̀ lókòwò. Ó jẹ́ aládùúgbò pẹ̀ lú Idowu. Iṣẹ́ tí ó mú ní ọ̀kúnkúndùn ni híhun oríṣiríṣi òwú sí aṣọ òtútù, aṣọ àwọ̀ jáde, àti bẹ́ẹ̀ bẹ́ẹ̀ lọ. Ó mọ oúnjẹ ẹ́ sè gan-an, papọ̀ pẹ̀ lú iṣẹ́ ọwọ́ ọ rẹ̀ .

Chinwe Erica Tijani: A married self-employed woman of two children. She is a neighbour to Idowu. Her area of specialty is knitting all kinds of wools into cardigans, dresses, etc. She is a very good cook in addition to her handwork. 

Blessing: Ọ̀rẹ́ tí ó ń ran’ni lọ́wọ́ , tí ó ń dúró ti’ni, tí ó sì ń ṣe àbójútó eto gbogbo inú ilé.

Blessing: a friend that helps, supports and manages the welfare of the entire house. 

Erykah Ifido: Ọmọ ilé ìwé ọlọ́pọlọ pípé, tí ó sì ní òye, pẹ̀ lú kí á já’ra sí’bí, kí á já’ra s’ọ́hùn, ó sì fẹ́ràn láti kẹ́kọ̀ọ́ àti láti wádìí.

Erykah Ifidon: A smart and intelligent high school student with so much energy and she loves to learn and explore.

Ewédú jẹ́ ewébẹ̀ aláwọ̀ ewé tí ó ṣe é jẹ, tí a sábà máa ń sè, tí yóò sì di ọbẹ̀ yíyọ̀ tí ó dùn láti jẹ. Orúkọ sáyẹ́ǹsì ewédú ni corchorus olitorius. 
Àmàlà jẹ́ èlùbọ́ iṣu tí a mú jáde láti ara èèpo/ara iṣu lẹ́yìn tí a ti sá a tí ó ti gbẹ dáradára, tí a sì lọ̀ ọ́ lúbúlúbú.

Cooking Session
AMALA, EWEDU ATI OMI OBE  (YAM FLOUR, JUTE MALLOW WITH STEW)
Ewedu is a green leafy edible vegetable which is often prepared into a delicious slimy soup. Ewedu is botanically known as corchorus olitorius.
Amala is a yam flour gotten from yam peels/skin that is well sun dried and grinded into flour. 

DESCRIPTION OF THE COOKING SESSION 
It is going to be an outdoor cooking where the people listed above will be available to assist. It is definitely an unusual event because we never cook outdoors and they are all looking forward to it. The session will be code mixed and code switched in Yoruba and English. The video will be subtitled both in Yoruba and English, that is, where anyone speaks Yoruba it will be subtitled in English and vice versa. 
Ingredients for Amala: 2 cups of Yam Flour (Elubo) ; 4 cups of water ; 1 cup of Hot water reserved 
Ingredients for Ewedu: Ewedu leaves ; ½ teaspoon of powdered potash ; 1.5 cups of water ; Ewedu broom chopper/ blender ; Salt to taste ; Maggi ; Chili pepper to taste (optional) ; 4-5 spoons of grinded crayfish 
Ingredients for Omi Obe (Stew): 1 kilo of Titus Fish ; Fresh Tomato ; Tatashe (red bell pepper) ; Scotch Bonnet (fresh pepper, ata rodo) ; Onions ; Palm oil ; Seasoning cubes, Salt.
